Fall term

Fall term will be over very soon.
It was faster to pass fall term than spring term.
I had never been to use English so much.
In fall term, there are so much English I have to read.
I worked hard to annotate texts.
Whenever I read one text, I always check vocabulary
I didn’t know, and write summary in margin.
As a result, I can catch up with my class mate.
I fancy that I always had ELP reader.
However in this term, I not only study but also
do other many things.
I met with my friend, joined in a certain project,
and did part time job.
I can lead a full time.
I hope I will also be able to lead a full time next term.

Is ICU strange?

Generally speaking, there is little funny
in Japanese university. Many Japanese students
hardly study in university, though they study

They dedicate their school life to the group activity

So, I talk my school life to my friend, they always
said to me “It’s very hard. Your school life is

Education of university gives us may chances.
We can acquire the way of thinking for their studying,
while we study by only memory in high school.

The way of thinking makes our life so rich.

tenji blocks

Do you know there are a rule in attatching tenji block?
First, the color is out standing color such as yellow.
This is for person who is weak eye sight. They can’t
Distinguish shape crealy, but they can distinguish
color and rough shape. So color help them when they walk.
Second, there are two type, and there is a each role
in attatching tenji block. One is for instructing stop,
and its surface are dots.
It is attached in a front of pedestrian crossing, bus stop,
or dangerous place. The other is for instructing go, and its surface is lines.
It is attached along the street.
These block help blind person decide whether go and stop.
Third, its surface is uneven in order to feel
surface in their stick.
If you see tenji block without knowing these rule,
you think only tenji block exist.
But with some knowledge, you find many mistakes, or
not working well. For example, the color is blown,
it is attached mistaking one for other,
it is flat, or there are bicycle on the tenji block.
Now, we claim that the world gradually become
barrier free, but it isn’t true.
The world of barrier free start in where everyone
have knowledge for disabled person.

Media is also to blame

Recently, it takes too much time to broad
about the Kameda on the TV.
Perhaps I can’t spend a day without seeing it.
I didn’t see the much Daiki Kameda versus
Daisuke Naito which many people regard as problem.
But I can imagine the game would be terrible,
because the performance of the Kameda went
to excess, I always thought.
However, is it true that the Kameda was only to blame?
I don’t think so.
Media is also to blame as well as the Kameda.
Media fell all over the Kameda, because they can
get audience rating, bring effect of economy.
This issue results from Media.
I know it cost much money to play sports.

Prejudice For Black

Now we are studying about race.
Then I have what I remember.
Why we were taught by elementary school teacher,
“Black people aren’t scary. They are gentle in fact.
So, we must not have prejudice for black people.”
It was taught when the assemble which
foreigner talked about their own country was held.
Among foreigner have white people as well as black people.
But probably teacher didn’t say about white people.
From our elementary school student view,
black people is foreigner as same as white people.
It is only difference in skin color.
They speak awkward Japanese and fluent foreign country language.
And they come in contact with us gently.
Nevertheless, why adult taught child only about black people?
I wonder the adult doesn’t recognize that these taught bring
prejudice for black people.
Perhaps, the education about foreigner now isn’t as same as
10 years ago.
However, if it continues,
prejudice for black people in Japan will exist all the time

The form of grave

What do you want your born to go after your die?
Now, in Japan, the grave in urban is so popular.
So you can’t buy it easily, even though you want.
It is heard that there are a person who wait for
getting her father’s grave for three years.
However, I have a question.
Is it really important to buy grave?
There is my grand father’s grave in Nagano.
I don’t intend to say it isn’t important.
But, what will it do after our die?
Perhaps, someone will hold a memorial service
and it won’t be long future.
If so, I want my born to sprinkle on the sea or mountain.
In fact, it is the new and more and more popular way.
My family also wants to.
I think it is the best because I don’t worry about
the future of my born.

The habit of talking

Do you have habit when talking?
For example, I play with straw or case of straw
when I talk with friends in fast food.
It sometimes brings impression to listener
that I’m not interested in speaker’s talk.
And I often start conversation without subject
when talking in Japanese.
It sometimes leads misunderstanding.
I asked this question some of my friends recently.
One of them said that he stare at listener for a long time.
It is not bad habit, we have learned from a child
that we should talk with looking listener’s eyes.
But, it sometimes brings uncomfortable feelings.

Difference of the time

From now on, I have learned we have to keep the time.
In Japan, it is generally for children to learn
“act before 5 minutes.”
We regard time as same as money.
It is shown by the proverb “Time is money”
So if someone is late for something, even if a bit,
if he is late again and again, the relationship to
someone go to bad, or is regarded as irresponsible people.
However, it isn’t general in many other countries.
When I went to Australia in the elementary school 3rd year,
They didn’t keep the time.
If the gather time is 14:30,
they shop without care around 14:30.
And somewhere (I can’t recall the name of country)
held contest of keeping time,
And the champion said “I’m regarded as strange person,
because I keep the time.
Almost all people don’t keep the time in my firm.”
This is cultural difference I studied in ELP reader.
So, if I go to other country,
I want to have knowledge that there is difference of
time value between my country to other country.

The image of China

　I have so bad image for China.
When I went to China in this summer,
I had a stomachache all day I stayed,
I couldn’t enjoy sightseeing to the Grate Wall of China.
Moreover, my friend and I were paid
unreasonable fare for tax driver,
and food which is cooked with
too much oil didn’t agree with me,
I had experienced the state
I couldn’t eat nothing for the first time.
It was precious experience in a certain sense,
but I don’t want to China again.
The other day, my brother went to China at a school trip.
He came back to Japan with good image of China.
He said that food didn’t agree with him,
but he could eat in some degree,
and he could so enjoy in China.
He also said he want to go China again.
Perhaps, the image we have depend on what we see,
what we do and are done by people who lives there.
If so, I may unlucky.

The reason why I am busier

It is difficult for me to write blog like spring term.
I am busier in autumn than spring term.
Why I am so busy? I think about it.
First, ELP is harder in autumn term than spring term.
Amount of text I have to read increase, and
I have to annotate text more strictly.
It is first time to read such amount and annotate text strictly.
It takes so much time to study English, because I’m not good at English.
So, it is so hard for me to study English in ELP.
Second, my part time job is harder in autumn term than spring term.
I have one student, who takes the entrance examination next year,
So I have to analyze his weakness, research about the school he wants to go,
and solve problem that I treat in class.
It is worthwhile job, but it is hard to do these things.
However, I enjoy school life in autumn term as same as in spring term.
All things bring my life rich.
So, I try to best the rest of autumn term.

Craftsman

Last week, I went to the fireworks display.
It was so nice, especially I like Niagara
which was like waterfall of Niagara and changed colors.
Japanese traditional skills including fireworks
are so dedicated and beautiful I think.
However, it is so difficult to keep these skills,
because it is difficult to bring up successor.
For example, it is said that it takes so many years
to bring up full-fledge craftsman of fireworks.
They have to pass treating gunpowder and
learn making fireworks in feeling. In Japan,
generally speaking, it takes eight years
to get only skill of making fireworks.
They have to bare severe training.
In addition to this, while he is apprenticeship,
he can’t get enough salary, so he barely live.

The other day, one Japanese journalist was killed in Myanmar.
My family (Of course including me) was shocked at that news,

I’m not he, but I think he wanted to convey miserable reality to us.
I realized again that the war happen somewhere at this moment,

Asasyoryu

Now the problem about Asasyoryu is very popular.
I thought that it doesn’t matter he come back to Japan or not,
And he continues to be in state of Yokozuna or not.
But I changed my mind because I knew about Sumou little.
Sumo is to pray for god by man who has strong power in origine,
though now it is strong characteristic in commerce.
So the Dohyo is made every day which fight is held,
And the Surume and kelp and so on are buried in it for offering.
To rise Dohyo is so sacred act.
And the highest state of Sumo is Ozeki a long time ago.
He is like bishop which administers praying.
But the purpose changed from praying to commerce,
The state of Yokozuna was made above Ozeki
To praise such strong power.
So then, Yokozuna is like biahop.
To consider about these two,
It is unnatural for him to rise Dohyo,
And to be Yokozuna.
Though I didn’t unlike him,
But I have a question that he is in Yokozuna.

Personal Space

I studied about personal space little in CS class.
I was very interested in, so I read some books about personal space.
What is the personal space?
It is kind of realm which we can’t see.
If we are invaded into our personal space by someone,
We feel uncomfortable.
If we talk with someone with long distance,
we can’t hear their voice and tell their look,
but if we talk with short distance,
we feel uncomfortable.
That is why, it is important and hard for us
to take appropriate distance.
So, what should we do?
It is said if we talk with our friend, 45~70 cm is
Appropriate distance.
This distance is subtle distance whether one person can touch or not.
Human beings tend to feel uncomfortable
if he is touched by someone who has deep relationship,
such as family, lovers.
So, if you talk with your friend, you had better take this distance first.
Then you have to look for more appropriate distance for them.

Koshien

I like baseball, and I like to watch Koshien.
So, I watched many games and checked
the article or TV program related to it.
The champion of this year is Saga Kita.
Had you known this team before getting championship?
I watched it almost every year,
but I didn’t know this team.
It is very natural because they take part
in Koshien only twice.
So many people including me didn’t regard
Saga Kita as remarkable team at first.
It was proven by little space to share about
Saga Kita in the article even if they have extra innings,
re-game and come-from-behind victory.
However, it finally get a championship.
I was very surprised and glad.

Image For Chinese Food

I went to China and Mongol corporate town
including China in this summer vacation.
I had a good opotunity that I could feelintercultural
difference.I enjoyed most of these difference,
but I had a problem only food, especially in China.
It was hard for me to eat something therelike in Japan.
So, my weigh decreased more than 4 kg only about
2 weeks.(But after returning to Japan,
I got these weighbecause of excessive drinking
and eating...)
Of course, one of the reasons why I couldn't
eat these is that I don't agree with these taste.
But the main reason is image for these food.
Before leaving to China, my parents told methat
mouse live in Chinese restrant,
or some Chinese restrant surve overdue food.
So, surely, I had had bad image before leaving.
But when I saw Chinese waitress didn't wash her
handafter the toilet, My image for Chinese food
solidified, it is too duty!!
From then, I hardly pass any food which
made in Chinathrough throat.
Probably it is very hard for me to overcome
this image.
So the least I can do is not to have such
image forother country food.

Spring term is finishing.
I feel time passed so fast.
I had never spoken English so much.
I had never studied something so much
for myself. Who did expect that
I am in ICU now when I graduated from
high school?
I am made by what I used to be.
When I choose university two years ago,
If I had not chosen Tokyo Metropolitan
University, I would not be in ICU.
In our life, we don’t know what the choice
of changing our life so much is.
Only one choice can change our life.
But however we choose any choice,
If we try to best, the choice isn’t miss choice.
Looking back my life, I feel so strongly.
SO, I want to treasure my time,
And try my best to choose when I have to
choose any choice.
Above all things, I want to make fruitful

Agricultural crisis

Now, the farmer is more and more
serious in Japan, because vegetable
are can’t be grown.
Why can’t be grown?
There are three reasons.
increasing depopulation
in the country side is the one reason.
Many people who related to
agriculture are old people.
And there is no successor.
Young people tend to go city,
and get a job which is stability.
Decreasing phosphoric acid
in field is the second reason.
Without enough phosphoric acid,
vegetable can’t be grown.
The environmental problem is

the last reason.
Especially weather is very
important for farmer.
Rainfall, snowfall,
and the time of daylight is
Very important for vegetable.
Vegetable can’t catch up with

Animation Types

I talk about animation the other day,
and I realized that we could divide
animation into three kinds by form of story.
First type is that one story continues
next week . In many case, its subject is
growth. Animation which one character aim
at full victory is popular example.
Sometimes, these animation ends early
in order to advance faster than comics.
Second type is that each story is independence
and same ending every week.
For example, Doraemon, Sazaesan and Anpanman,
which have been popular for long time,
belong to this type. These types can continue
forever as long as it has problem,
but if producer want to continue for a long time,
he have to make this devising in order not to
get into a rut. What join above two types is last type.
This type’s stories are conclusion in 1~4 weeks,
and sometimes, the story is unfold.
Detective Conan which is mystery and
Sailor Moon is this type.
What is a common denominator of all type
is interesting. If nobody were interested it,
it couldn’t continue. Type is different,
but all animation is made interesting.
As we grow up, we will not watch it.
So if you have free time and you don’t like
animation, you may be better to watch it.
You can go back to childhood during 30 minutes.

Earthquake

I saw “Emergency Room 24 Hours
(Kyumei Byoto 24zi)” the other day.
This drama show us terror of
earthquake from victim’s such as doctor,
nurse, politician’s point of view.
I felt the terror of earthquake again.
The drama said, the percent of
the earthquake which will register intensity
more than 7 on the Japanese scale
in Tokyo is more than 70 %. That is why, it is no
wonder that we will have earthquake today.
And then, I shocked the size of damage.
For example, if we had the earthquake
6 o’clock in winter, the death toll would
climb more than 12000, because we use
fire and gas, or we don’t come back home.
Transportation isn’t work, and more than
150000 building collapse.
Both damage of man and substances are
very big. If Tokyo suffers this damage,
we need 82 trillion yen to reconstruct Tokyo.
82 trillion yen are as same value as
budget of Japan. So, if Tokyo had earthquake,
Japan would die.
I was a lot of shock from this drama saying.
On the other hand, however, I could know
good nature of human.
Of course this is drama, not real.
However if we had earthquake, we would
do same. ”Every one is victim.”
This word is said by Mr. Shindo,
one character of drama.
When big earthquake happen,
everyone is same. There are many job
in the world, doctor, teacher, politician,
fire fighter and so on. But every body is same.
Everyone may worry about their family,
want to spend better life.
Everyone has same hope,
So, each person can do what he can,
and we can help each other in order
to get over earthquake.
“If I have earthquake…” I don’t want to
think it. However, I have to accept reality.
If I have earthquake, I want to do what I can,
and help others possible. And I

The importance of preparation for class in university

Almost everyone is told that

the preparation and review for class is

so important, these are keys of increasing

our understanding level in high school.

But many people may not do such in practice.

The reason is that if we don’t do such, it isn’t

at a loss so much, and it is a problem only ourselves.

So, we think it as not so much importance.

But in university, especially ICU, isn’t applied

such as in high school. If we don’t prepare for class,

we are trouble for others sometimes.

For example, if I am presenter, I make others

waste valuable time. Or, if I join in discussion,

I can’t comment about the topic. In university,

we are given more chance of presentation and

discussion by teachers in university than in high school.

So, we have to prepare for class more in university

Ziburi movies

I'm sure you know “Spirited Away
(Sen to Chihiro no kamikakusi).”
This is very famous movie in Japan,
and also it is known to many people
in the world. It is won the gold prize
in Berlin international movie award.
This movie is one of the studio ziburi’s
movies. I have felt any movies made by
studio ziburi are so good vaguely.
My family seems to have felt, too.
Yesterday, we could have chance to
talk about ziburi movies,
because there were TV program
about ziburi’s movies.

So, there are 3 reasons that
we feel good. First, any movies have
something to appeal behind the story.
Except some movies, many movies
don’t show the problem directly.
They don’t treat serious subject
directly. But they have something
to appeal. After seeing these movies,
we can think about something.
It is the one element of good movie.
Second, the music is attractive.
Even if we close our eyes,
the music of these movies brings
me the image of the scene.
What music is accommodated to
the scene is one of the elements.
Finally, there are many conflicts in
making one movie, and talk each
other until they are satisfied.
In the TV program, one people
whose job is making catch copy
said”I am going to be neurosis.”
It is element of good movie that
there are so many efforts
in making one movie.
Of course, whether feeling good
movie depends on each sense,
but I want to recommend others
these movies having these elements.

Supporter Of Soccer And Baseball

Many people like to watch game
of sports. Especially, baseball and
soccer are popular in Japan.
I like these, too.
Also, I watch these two or three
times once a yare, too.
Every time went to stadium,
I realize they are different each other.
Of course, their rule is different.
However, it isn’t only different in rule.
The most different is their supporter.
There are many young people
(age of 10-30) and few old people
in soccer stadium. So few people
drink alcohol or eat side dish of sake.
Everyone support soccer player
during 2 set of 45 minute,
standing in front of the seat.
To supporter of soccer,
there are many old people in
Baseball Park. In Rule of base ball,
each team have 9 attack chance
and 9 defense chance (of course
it has an exception) . So we
support mainly attack chance.
In time of defense of supporting
team, we enjoy drinking alcohol
or juice and eating dinner or side
dish of sake, watching attack
chance of enemy’s team.
Of course, both are sports
supporter. So they have same points.
One of example is that we complain
about miss play or not good play.
And, if favorite team was win, we
would be very please at win,
if favorite team was lost, we would
be disappoint at lose. Some people
very angry and throw the megaphone
into the stadium. This is the second
example. However the most same
point is probably that the most same
point is that we enjoy watching very much.

The class in ICU

The class in ICU

The classes in ICU are so unique.
The reasons are as follow.
First, the way of classes is unique.
I had only lecture in class
when I was freshman in previous university.
I didn’t have chance to discuss.
To my hearing, many universities
take the same style of my previous university.
Many friends haven’t been discussed in
classes except seminar.
Discussion in class is unique point.
Second, the way of evaluation is unique.
Many schools evaluate student by score
of exam or report or both, though
teachers say” we evaluate you by
not only score of exam, but also attendance.”
Third, assignment is unique.
Many students in other university don’t
have such amount of assignment.
I don’t think it is a lot, but my friends
in high school or the previous university
friends are surprised
at my amount of homework.
These unique classes are brought
by the eager teachers.
To evaluate students by exam is so easy
for teacher, because teachers can teach
arbitrary, and evaluate only by score.
If teachers aren’t eager,
we don’t take these unique classes.
These classes bring us chance to learn
the way of thinking.
So, if teachers aren’t eager,
we can’t have chance to learn
the way of thinking.
That is why I’m happy that
I can have chance to take classes in ICU.

The difference of music

　　　Now, we tend to regard classic music
as so noble. If someone says,
”I listen to classic music,”
he is regarded as player of any instrument
or little noble person.
Why they are regarded as so?
What is the different?
　　　In my opinion, the most different is
each origin, in other word,
it was the different target of each music.
For example at the beginning of
classic music, it is for nobleman.
Only very high income family could
afford to play the instrument and listen to it.
On the contrary, at the beginning of
pop music, it is for commoner.
It is so flexible and everyone can have
enjoyed it from at the beginning.
Also blues is for a African American,
anthem is for a Christian.
So, even now, there is tendency that
pop music is familiar to us,
while other music isn’t familiar to us.

Environmental problem

What do you think is the most serious
environmental problem? In Japan, many people
would answer global warming or destruction of
ozone layer、because medias such as news paper,
TV program feature them so much.
However, the most serious problem
is decreasing phosphorus.

I knew this in last biology class.
My instructor said, “phosphorus is decreasing
the rate at 3% per year. If it is decreasing
the same rate, there is no phosphorus in the world
in 60 years Phosphorous is based on photosynthesis
of plant. So, perhaps we will have to live
without natural oxygen. ”

Of course I’m so concerned about
the environmental, but the most concerning things
is what I didn’t know this. This problem is
the problem which we have to know,
because we have to think about its solution.
Who is concerned if we don’t care? To my hear,
only one news paper showed this problem
in beginning of the year. Perhaps it brings confusing.
But to tell the world the serious problem is
responsibility for media and researcher.
If they so, the world will destroy to
the environment that we can’t repair.

“Zicho Ziko”

　　　　In my junior and high school,
I had chance to catch a glimpse of
the studying in university,
find problem and solve it myself.
We call this form of study “Zicho Ziko.”
This is my school policy.
It means that to look into
what we want to know,
then we think about it
based on what we look into.
It is pity that we didn’t feel it so much,
but there is always at least one chance
to feel it so much. It is in school trip.
In my school trip, teachers don’t
give usthe journey.
The time when we have to act
in class or grade is only meeting held at night
and a return transportation.

So, what did we do?

　　　　At first, we have to study about
the place we would go,and decide theme.
Anything is OK as long as it related in
the place, some chose history,
some chose traditional handiwork…
Then, we compose group (5~6 members)
based on each themeand we decide
what we want to go in group, thinking
what we have to go in order to know
what we want to know.
On that day, we act in group based on journey
made in advance, study in field,
And then we have to make report
after coming back.

In those days, I didn’t know the meaning
of traveling such a way well.
However, I look back and realize that
it is very useful for us to experience university study.
This way of studying is little hard, but I like it,
because I can know what I want to know.

The relation of safe and profit

The relation of safe and profit is
inverse proportion. In other words,
if we pursuit safe, profit decrease,
and if we pursuit profit, safe decrease.

Let’s look at two cases.

1. the case of Fukuchiyama line
More than 100 people died by speed over.
There are so many trains in the morning
in Fukuchiyama line like Yamanote line.　
So, if they had safety locks even if it took
much money, or if the conductor decreased
its speed　even if the train company was
blamed by passenger for the train being
delayed , this accident wouldn’t happened.

2. Roller coaster in Expo Land
The woman died and about 20 people
were injured by roller coaster.
It is happened by neglecting check.
Also, to my surprise, it has never
exchanged parts. Check itself cost them
too much money and it is damage that
they don’t get profit by stopping roller coaster.
However, if they checked it, she wouldn’t die,
and about 20 people wouldn’t be injured.

These cases are clearly　examples
That people are injured by pursuing profit.
People think that we will have no accidents,
because the frequency of happening
accidents is very low.
However, there are accidents in reality.
So, company should think not only profit,
but also safety.

And, we don’t have to shift
all responsibility to company.
Do you blame company for little things?
To guard myself from accident,
we should pursuit profit too much.
